Now, it's a known fact that I'm a big fan of the first Hellboy movie and the comic in general. I loved the first Hellboy movie. And it released 2 months later in Australia. That killed half the buzz for me. But I tried my best to not let myself be affected by what others thought of it, by not letting the people who watched it already tell me about it. I stayed clear of trailers and review sites. Was it all worth it?
Yes. But you know what, even if Hellboy II sucked, I probably would have loved it. But I'm thankful it didn't. Golden Army was bigger than the first Hellboy, funnier for sure and more grand than the first one. I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are some parts of the movie I'd change, sure, but overall the movie was really amazing. And like everyone says, the imagination of Guillermo Del Toro is truly astounding. To have created such a beautiful world and such vivid characters, it's amazing. I read somewhere and I agree, I wonder what Guillermo Del Toro would've done with the Lord of the Rings trilogy had he directed it instead of Peter Jackson. I'm sure something even more amazing would've been the result.
We'll get a chance to experience it since he's going to be directing the Hobbit. If Nolan is dominating the superhero genre, del Toro is dominating the fantasy genre for sure. I loved Hellboy II through and through. It ranks #3 in this year's movies so far. #1 is Iron man. #2 is Dark Knight. #3 Hellboy II: Golden Army.
Oh and seriously, how ridiculously hot was Selma Blair? She negated all the ugly in the movie by a LONG SHOT. There was a hot-deficit man. Selma Blair is ranking #1 on my TO-DO List. No no. Haha. Okay. She's #1 in my hottie list. Jolie can sidestep for a while.
